Occupational Therapy

What is Occupational Therapy?

Occupational therapy is a client-centered health profession concerned with promoting health and well-being through occupation. The primary goal of occupational therapy is to enable people to participate in the activities of everyday life.

Enabling people to participate in the activities of everyday life

Occupational Therapists achieve this outcome by working with you and your community to enhance your ability to engage in the occupations you want to, need to, or are expected to do, or by modifying the occupation or the environment to better support your occupational engagement.

How can Eunoia Lane’s Occupational Therapists help you?

Employment

Eunoia Lane is passionate about assisting you to engage in meaningful work opportunities in the open employment market. Our Occupational Therapists work with you to help achieve your NDIS employment goals and engage in meaningful work. We do this by working with you to determine your interests, and functional capacity in relation to workplace needs.

Our occupational therapy team may also provide education in safe work practices, appropriate workplace behaviour and expectations, and resume development; and can provide advice in regard to modifying the workplace or duties to suit your needs and prevent or minimise injuries.

Assistive Technology

Where it is identified that you have a need to increase your physical or cognitive function, our Occupational Therapists may make recommendations for assistive technology across a range of areas, from mobility aids to memory aids. We will identify the most appropriate technology required, and provide recommendations for you to obtain the item/s under your NDIS plan.

Mental Health

Our Occupational Therapists work with you to enhance your participation and independence in everyday activities.

Our team works with you to help achieve your NDIS goals, by creating individual programs. These may include developing routines, providing coping strategies, and improving confidence and self-esteem in social situations.

Home modifications

Our Occupational Therapists conduct assessments of your home to determine if modifications are required to enhance your safety and function in everyday tasks.

Home modifications could be minor, such as installation of a grab rail in the shower; or major modifications such as a full bathroom renovation. Our Occupational Therapists work with local builders to determine the best layout and assistive technology required to enhance your independence and safety in the home.

Vision Impairment

Eunoia Lane has an Occupational Therapist with extensive experience working with people who are blind or have low vision.

Our team can identify strategies and equipment to improve your functional independence and safety.

Assessments

Our Occuptional Therapists can provide many assessments as required by your personalised care plan.

Sensory Assessments

Our Occupational Therapists conduct sensory assessments across all age groups, to identify an individual’s sensory profile and how this may impact on their behaviour and daily function.

Recommendations are made to assist you with managing and enhancing your behaviour and function, and may include assistive equipment.

Functional Assessments

Comprehensive assessment of your functional ability to complete activities of daily living at home and in the community; to identify the need for further therapy input or modifications to the task or environment to enable you to achieve increased independence.

Cognitive Assessments

Our Occupational Therapists use both standardised and non-standardised assessments to establish any areas of deficit in cognition and the impact this has on your function; and work with you to improve your function or modify the task to enable increased independence.
